Acuityhealthcare Emerging as Leader in Growing Healthcare Industry with Announcement of Fifth Contract

Austin, TX– Acuityhealthcare Management Corporation, a specialty hospital company based in Austin, Texas, announced it has been selected by Our Lady of Lourdes, a nationally recognized healthcare system, to manage the opening and operation of a 30-bed Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTAC) in the System’s hospital in Willingboro, New Jersey, 15 miles east of Philadelphia. This represents the fifth management agreement signed by Acuity since the company’s inception in May 2001.

“Acuity has been presented with a wonderful opportunity to showcase its talents and experience”, said Ed Cooper, Acuity founder and CEO. Mr. Cooper added, “Acuity was selected from among a number of excellent companies. A big part of being chosen was the references received from Acuity’s existing clients. It illustrates the outstanding reputation we have gained during our company’s short history. Each and every Acuity employee is to be commended for the outstanding work being done every day at Acuity hospitals. Through their efforts Acuity is establishing itself as a company that excels in the LTAC industry.”

Mindy Moore, JD, Acuity COO stated, “This is the second Catholic Health East (CHE) System to choose Acuity as its LTAC partner. The first CHE facility was Mercy Hospital in Miami, Florida.” Moore pointed out that, “Acuity will be one of the first to open an LTAC in New Jersey since regulations were enacted encouraging the development of LTAC hospitals in the state.” Mr. Cooper noted, “The Acuityhealthcare team brings together some of the most experienced, talented and creative people in this small but growing specialty hospital industry.”

According to Cooper, “The LTAC specialty hospital industry is the fastest growing segment of healthcare. Acuity is unique in that it is the only company that offers either hospital management services or LTAC hospital joint venture ownership to it clients. There are now approximately 300 LTAC hospitals in the country, up from less than 100 hospitals ten years ago.

LTAC hospitals provide specialized and focused, interdisciplinary care, to medically complex patients who require intensive hospitalization for an extended period, through the “hospital-within-hospital” model that delivers improved clinical outcomes at a lower cost of care.”

Acuity, which also manages LTAC hospitals in North Carolina and Florida, offers complete specialty hospital services to organizations seeking to create a better option for handling the unique needs of these special patients.
